INANGLUPA is a social movement working for a science-based climate smart and competitive Philippine agriculture for social and economic empowerment of smallholder farmers. Now is the time for the smallholder farmers to be given high priority, to wean them out of abject proverty.
HISTORY
Inanglupa is a social movement founded by Dr William Dollente Dar, advocating inclusive, science-based, resilient and market-oriented Philippine agriculture. It was born on December 6, 2013 during the visit of media practitioners, development specialists, government technocrats and farmer leaders from the Philippines at ICRISAT where Dr Dar is working as servant leader for 15 years since 1999. He said that it was time for him to pay back to his motherland through his broad knowledge and strong leadership in agriculture. According to him, Inanglupa is designed not to compete with the existing government programs but to enhance them in the spirit of social responsibility towards improved livelihoods of smallholder farmers depending on agriculture and rural development. Inanglupa envisions a New Philippine Agriculture 2020 to be advocated and pushed by every sector of the society to rally behind the goals of reducing hunger and poverty, creating opportunity for income growth while ensuring environmental sustainability, and meeting the needs of resource-poor farmers and consumers.
BACKGROUND
Today, we are faced with the challenge to look closer on how we could describe and provide the specific details to the issues and concerns about people, communities, processes and development in agriculture. Social movements, transformations, reforms and changes are the realities in shaping the agriculture sector. Lessons learned, experiences and observations done changes that affect the people and their communities in the different processes and activities they participated must be shared together.
Aiming to radically reshape the agriculture sector, the roadmap envisions a New Philippine Agriculture 2020 to be advocated by the InangLupa Movement, a social movement that will push every sector of the society to rally behind the goals of reducing hunger and poverty, creating opportunity for income growth while ensuring environmental sustainability, particularly meeting the needs of resource-poor farmers and consumers, through a climate-smart agriculture.
Developed InangLupa Roadmap is a plan for an urgent, collective and cohesive action towards poverty alleviation, food and nutrition security, and economic prosperity through a New Philippine Agriculture by 2020.
